John McKay, AIA, Principal.
 

John McKay has been in the business of architecture and planning for over 35 years.  He has held design and management positions in Europe, Canada, and the United States. 

Design and project planning are his primary expertise.  He has designed and managed the construction of over $275,000,000.  The projects include health care, assisted living, independent living facilities, commercial and retail development, multifamily communities, condominiums, hotels and retirement communities.

John was the designer and planner for the award winning $120,000,000 Harbour Development in Sandusky, Ohio, this is a 120 acre development located on Lake Erie.

 
   

At a Glance…

Mr. McKay received his Bachelor Architecture Degree from Leicester School of Architecture in Leicester, England.  He is a member of the American Institute of Architects and the Architects Society of Ohio.

John Boyce, Architect/Project Manager
 

John Boyce has considerable experience in project management and coordination of skilled care and elderly housing projects.

His responsibilities include existing building surveys, code research, production and coordination of construction documents and construction administration. John is critically aware of the role that client-architect communication plays in a successful project.  To the end, Boyce strives to facilitate an uncomplicated and enjoyable architectural experience for the client by keeping them aware of every step along the way.

Mr. Boyce has managed in excess of $30 million in skilled care and assisted living projects.

 
   

At a Glance…

Mr. Boyce received his Architectural Degree from Columbus State. He has furthered his experience by attending continuing education courses in building law, zoning procedure and construction management.  He is a member of the Builders Exchange of Central Ohio and the Specifications Institute of America.

 

 
Steve Zimmerman, Senior Project Manager

As a project manager Steve Zimmerman’s role is to lead an ML team in providing our clients with the building that best suits their present and future needs. In achieving this he must develop the trust and professional relationship necessary to help our clients make solid informed decisions based on knowledge and experience. 

Mr. Zimmerman is degreed from Central Michigan University.  He continuously enhances his education with courses in Project Management, Building Law and Code Compliance.  He is a member of the Specifications Institute of America. 

Mr. Zimmerman has performed as project manager and coordinator on projects ranging from $2 million to $10 million. Clients he has represented vary from church and housing projects to mental health and skilled care nursing facilities and retirement and residential care living. 

His responsibilities include existing building surveys, code research, production and coordination of construction documents and construction administration. Steve’s critically aware of the role that client-architect communication plays in a successful project.  To this end, through open communication, continuous project assessment and encouraging clients input he endeavors to assure a professional experience for the client and a building meeting their expectations.




Steven Riggs, Senior Project Coordinator

As senior project coordinator Steve Riggs has the responsibility of overseeing CADD production of construction documents.  Our practice is only as good as the documents it produces, Mr. Riggs assesses our computer drafting capability updating it to assure ML provides state of the art production throughout the construction document phases. 

He has twenty years experience in coordinating production on projects ranging from skilled care health care centers to domestic residences, tax credit housing and assisted and independent living.  He has assisted in developing in house computer systems that ensure that specifications and drawings reflect the same product standards and continuous quality. 

His responsibilities include building surveys, code research, production and coordination of construction documents and construction administration. Ensuring the clients’ expectations are met depends in great part on the accuracy of our drawings and documents. To this end Mr. Riggs oversees in house quality control and technical capability. 
 

Mr. Riggs continuously enhances his technical capabilities through education courses in computer drafting, specification and product courses, and project management.  He is currently involved in developing the ML program for LEED, environmentally friendly buildings.



Jim Knox, Project Manager

Jim Knox has 20 years of experience in the research and development of construction products and specifications, both critical in issues in assuring a successful project. This experience allied with a background in dealing with the challenges of day to day coordination throughout the construction process provides invaluable experience with which to represent our client. Construction administration, the process of overseeing the coordination of the project submittals, scheduling of construction and quality control, requires a strict attention to detail. This is the discipline Jim Knox provides for our client from initial design cost analysis through completion.  

Jim’s main focus is the coordination of construction practices, from product and workmanship specifications, to the review of contractor’s applications for payment, a process requiring knowledge of current building costs and analysis. 

Jim monitors currents trends in “Green” architecture, the development of buildings using environmentally friendly products, a process that can provide tax incentives for our clients. He assists our design architects in including these products in the early schematic design process.
